2026 Elections: Local Voter’s Guide

Eligible Reno residents are preparing to cast their ballots in federal, state, county and city elections this year, and as usual there is a lot of choice.

To make it a little easier for you to find information, Noticiero Móvil is gearing up for the current election cycle with the creation of simple local voter guide to hopefully help you make the right choice for you, your family and your community.

Don’t forget that all registered voters will receive their mail-in ballots the week of October 5, which can be submitted on or before Election Day. Other options include voting early at approved centers or you can visit a polling site on Election Day Nov. 3. To register to vote, Nevadans can visit VOTE.NV.gov.

Below are the candidates for the Reno Mayoral Race, County Commissioner, and Congress. Look out for a guide to Nevada’s gubernatorial race and for recaps of theupcoming candidate forums that will continue to shed light for voter’s about what they may be able to expect from the potential victors.

RENO MAYOR RACE

Kathleen Taylor (R)   

Since 2024, Taylor has served as an appointed representative of the Ward 1 Neighborhood Advisory Committee on the Reno Council. She was also elected in 2024 as Vice Mayor of Reno, Nevada. This term, if elected, she says that she will “run city hall like a business.” The issues she will focus on include the housing crisis, overspending, and the strain on infrastructure.

Kate Marshall (D)

Marshall served as Lieutenant Governor in 2018 and Nevada State Treasurer from 2006 to 2010. In 2021, Marshall served as Senior Advisor at the White House. She currently teaches business law at the University of Nevada, Reno. “I’ll bring my years of experience to City Hall to benefit all of us.” Marshall’s main priorities include the housing crisis and budgeting problems.

County Commissioner, District 3

Mariluz Garcia (D) 

Garcia was elected to the Washoe County Board of Commissioners in 2022 and currently represents District 3. Prior to the Board of Commissioners, Garcia served for 25 years as an educator and nonprofit leader. Her main priorities include expanding access to essential services and to provide a safe community by expanding her current work.

Troy P. Regas (R)  

Regas served as a board member for the Northern Nevada Confederation of Clubs in 1997 that advocates for riders’ rights and unifies motorcycle clubs. He is also a local business owner who managed a floral family business and managed a legal brothel called the Old Bridge Ranch. His campaign will focus on public safety, homelessness, and budget discipline for Nevada.

Congressional Representative, District 2 

Teresa F. Benitez-Thompson (D) 

Benitez-Thompson started her career as a social worker and in 2011 began to serve as Majority Leader of the Nevada Assembly. In 2022, she served as chief of staff to Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford until 2026. Her main focus for Nevada is accessible healthcare, safer communities, and stabilizing the economy.

Lynn Chapman (I)

Chapman is the independent candidate option for voters in this next election. Research about her candidacy reveals that Chapman is conservative leaning and that she also previously ran in the 2024 election. As a Christian, her morals are rooted in the value that marriage is between a man and a woman. She is an advocate for homeschool learning and aims to cut taxes if elected.

David Flippo (R) 

Flippo is a small business owner and a retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel who served for 24 years. He operates and owns Strategic Foundations LLC and a local HobbyTown retail franchise in Nevada. His main priorities will be to fight surging crime, illegal immigration, government overreach, and threats to our freedom.
