Special Projects: Latinos in the Eyes of the Media

Hot, sexy, criminal, lazy. The images we see of Latinos in the media do not always truly represent the diverse community in the United States.

In fact, Latino culture is much more: it is hardworking, generous, joyful, and successful. Latinos in the U.S. have contributed to the nation for more than five centuries, but given the little and stereotypical inclusion of Latinos in images, videos, sounds and texts published throughout history, there is still misinformation about our community.

In this section of Noticiero Móvil we will highlight the best essays by students of the course “Latinos in the Eyes of the Media,” for example, from the Reynolds School of Journalism. This course investigates the evolution of the different media in the U.S. and the participation – or not – of Latinos in the creation of their identity and the concept of Latinidad.

These essays have been written as an analysis of how media content drive the fair or misrepresentation of Latinos in the U.S. and how they begin to change the narrative about their communities in this country.
