QUESTION 7: To Require or Not Require a State ID to Vote
Ballot Question 7 focuses on the implementation of requiring, in the Nevada Constitution, a state-issued identification card to be eligible to vote. Could this add more obstacles to voting or reduce the potential for voter fraud?
This November 3 Nevadans have the opportunity to vote “yes” or “no” on the enactment of required voter ID’s. This is not the first time time Nevada has voted on this state issue as in 2024, 74 percent of voters approved of this new initiative. The law must pass in two consecutive elections to be added to the Nevada Constitution. What does it mean for future elections to vote “yes” or “no?”

“Yes” on Question 7: Supports amending the Nevada Constitution to require voters to either present a valid form of identification for in person voting, or last four digits of their social security or drivers license for mail in voting.
“No” on Question 7: Opposes amending the Nevada Constitution to require voters to either present a valid form of identification for in person voting, or last four digits of their social security or drivers license for mail in voting.
As of 2026, Nevada is one of 14 states that do not require a form of ID but rather, compares signatures from your ballot to your voter registration signature. However, verifying signatures has not been reliable considering that in the 2024 election over 9,000 mail-in ballots could not be verified and were therefore tossed out.
In order to register to vote you must be a United States citizen, 18 years or older (or will be 18 once voting begins), and continuously live in your county in Nevada for at least 30 days.
If Question 7 passes, Nevadans will have multiple methods to verify their identity for in person voting including
- Nevada driver’s license,
- Issued government ID from Nevada, any other state, or U.S. government
- Employee photo identification card issued by U.S. government, Nevada Government, any county, municipality, board, authority, or other Nevada government entity
- U.S. Passport
- U.S. military identification card
- Student photo identification card issued by a Nevada public college, university, or technical school
- Tribal photo identification card
- Nevada concealed firearms permit
If voting by mail-in-ballot, the voter verification requires either the last four digits of drivers license or the last four digits of social security. If you have neither, the number provided by the county clerk when registering will suffice.
There are no specifications if Nevadans without the qualified ID’s will receive assistance from the government to vote (for example shuttle service to travel to the Department of Motor Vehicle) or if Nevadans will have to get verifiable IDs, those listed above, on their own.
