Returning to the states following a controversial 2023, the Latin Grammy Awards will celebrate their 25 anniversary on Thursday, Nov. 14, at Miami’s Kaseya Center—where the ceremony will be held for the third time in its history.
Last year, the Latin Recording Academy made the decision to move the event outside of America for the first time to Seville, Spain, resulting in some backlash. Although the change was to give artists the opportunity to broaden their European reach, Latino communities argued it was in poor taste because it ignored the cultural significance Spanish colonization had on Latin American countries.
Despite the criticism the Academy faced, the Latin Grammys continue to ensure the recognition of creators and excellence in Latin music during the Biggest Night in Latin Music.
There is plenty of excitement in having the ceremony back this year in Miami, in a city widely considered one of the epicenters of Latin culture in the world.
“As the Home of Latin Music, we’re excited to deliver yet another unforgettable night of excellence in music, grounded in our passion and unwavering commitment to shining a bright light on the most culture-defining moments for Spanish-speaking audiences worldwide,” said Ignacio Meyer, president of Univision Television Networks Group at Televisa Univision, about the upcoming ceremony.
The show will be hosted by María Becerra, Juliana and Luísa Sonza, feature a lineup of artists performances and the introduction of two new categories: Best Contemporary Mexican Music Album and Best Latin Electronic Music Performance.
Performers this night will include Anitta, Alejandro Fernández, Carlos Rivera, Carín León, DARUMAS, Danny Ocean, David Bisbal, Edgar Barrera, Elena Rose, Eladio Carrión, Emilia, Becky G., Grupo Frontera, Juan Luis Guerra, Kali Uchis, Leonel García, Luis Fonsi, Pitbull, Reik, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, Carlos Vives (the 2024 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year), and Ela Taubert.
Also, additional performers for the awards were recently added, including current nominees Ángela Aguilar, Álvaro Díaz, Myke Towers, Quevedo, Residente, Tiago Iorc, Trueno, and The Warning, alongside previous nominee Leonardo Aguilar, as well as Grammy-winning artists DJ Khaled and Jon Bon Jovi, and Grammy-nominated artist Joe Jonas.
