Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15 nationally. In Reno and the surrounding areas, there are many events that occur during this time which celebrate the rich histories and cultures of the descendants of Spanish-speaking countries.
This article will attempt to maintain a current list of all the events happening throughout the month. If you know of any events that are not included that you think would be a quality addition, please feel free to reach out to us via our Facebook!

Ongoing:
- Guillermo Bert Art Exhibition: Exhibition by Chilean artist Guillermo Bert, who explores the endurance of immigrants and the effects of colonization and capitalism on them. (Sep. 15 – Oct 15, Nevada Museum of Art and Lilley Museum of Art)
September 13:
- Tu Bienvenida (TMCC): Music, entertainment, food, plus UNR Professor Clauda Cruz will speak about the following topic: “From the Bronx to Bad Bunny: How 50 Years of Hip Hop Culture Brought Latinos Social Issues into the Mainstream”. (TMCC Student Center, Dandini Campus, 11am-1pm)
September 15:
- Tu Bienvenida (UNR): Annual welcome event to connect with Latinx faculty and students at UNR. (Outside JCSU (Gateway Plaza) 3 pm to 4:30 pm)
- Charlas Y Chelas: The Burn Out: Professional development opportunity where community experts will host a panel on how to overcome burnout. (Voodoo Brewing Co. 550 W Plumb Ln, 5:30-7:30 pm)
September 16:
- Mexican Heritage Festival 2023: Parade and festival with live music to celebrate Mexican independence day. (Truckee River Regional Park, 10500 Brockway Rd Truckee, CA 96161 12 pm to 8 pm)
- Wolf Pack Football Game: The Wolf Pack will play Kansas at home and will have the student mariachi band Lobos de Plata perform at half-time, and there will be a fireworks show in honor of the month. (Mackay Stadium, University of Reno, Nevada, 7:30 pm)
September 19:
- Latinx Karaoke: The multicultural center will be hosting a karaoke night with Mexican street food and Venezuelan empanadas. (JCSU The Multicultural Center, Room 311, 6:30-8:30 pm)
September 24:
- Fiesta on Wells: Annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration with music, dancing, and food. (Reno, Wells Avenue, from Vassar to Crampton 11 am to 5 pm)
September 26:
- Meet + Learn with LADAMA: The group will perform and speak about their collective work as an ensemble that challenges borders and investigates music between and across continents and cultures. (Sparks Library, 11 am)
- Paletas & Paint Picnic: Painting picnic with a popsicle bar where students will recreate paintings from famous Latinx artists. (Peavine Lawn, 1664 N. Virginia St. 6-8 pm)
September 27:
- Hispanic Heritage Month Movie and Dialogue: Dolores: Learn about the amazing life and work of Dolores Huerta (JCSU Theatre, 5:30-7:30 pm)
September 28:
- Performing Arts Series Presents: LADAMA: See live Latin alternative music at the Nightingale Concert Hall (University of Nevada, Reno, 7:30 pm)
October 5:
- Loteria Night: Mexican bingo night with street food and snacks (JCSU, Room 311 5:30-8:30 pm)
October 11:
- #YHLQMDLG: Breaking the labels of our Latinidad: Panel of students and faculties will discuss their experience with challenging labels in order to be their true selves. ( JCSU Theatre, 5-7:30 pm)
October 15:
- Dia de los Muertos Celebration: featuring Ballet Folklórico Pueblo Nuevo, Ballet Folklórico Internacional de Reno, Danza Azteca de Aztlán, Mariachi Lobos de Plata, and more (JCSU Ballrooms, 2:00–5:00 pm)
