Hispanic Heritage Month 2024 celebrations in Reno (and Truckee)

Between September 15 and October 15 celebrations begin throughout the United States in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. The City of Reno and its surrounding areas host a variety of events inviting people to immerse themselves in the culture that make up the largest ethnic group in the nation and 24% of our local population.

From live entertainment and dance performances, to food and drink vendors, this article lists all of the events happening throughout the month of September. Suggestions are welcomed and can be submitted via our Facebook or Instagram.

Ongoing:

  • Viva La Fiesta (Northwest Reno Library): All ages can enjoy Hispanic Heritage Month at the library throughout the week of September 24-28. Enjoy crafting on ‘Artesania Night,’ learn how to play Mexican bingo on ‘Loteria Night,’ and create a map of Spanish-speaking countries on’ Vamonos a Viajar Night’

September 13-14:

  • The Biggest Little Latin Festival (outside on Virginia Street from 2nd to 6th Street): Experience a live salsa judging contest, Lucha Libre and dancing horses. Along with food and drinks, and a variety of vendors presented throughout the streets of downtown Reno. 

September 14-15:

  • Legends Bay Casino Celebrates Hispanic Heritage (Sparks): Live music and a folkloric dance performances are the highlights of this event, along with a variety of food trucks offering agua frescas and tacos to name a few. On Sunday, winners are chosen for the “Show & Shine” Car Show.
  • 4th Annual Mexican Heritage Festival 2024 (Truckee Regional Park): Fox Cultural Hall hosts The Mexican Heritage Festival, honoring Mexico’s Día de la Independencia. The celebration runs from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.; activities include live performances, arts and crafts; food and drinks as well as traditional games.

September 15:

  • Bachata Brunch (Reno Public Market): Enjoy a free one hour dance lesson, followed by an open dance floor, presented to you by The Reno Empire & Sierra Event Group
  • Nevada Democrats host Salsa Night (Sparks)

September 16:

  • Tu Bienvenida (JCSU Gateway Plaza): Dance performances, Latin music and food are all part of the celebration to start off Hispanic Heritage Month as well as the new academic year. Students, faculty, and community members all welcome.
  • Sip and Paint (Truckee Meadows Community College Student Center, Dandini Campus): The Student Government at TMCC celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, participate in the painting of azulejos while enjoying a variety of aguas frescas

September 21:

  • Latino Conservation Week – Bilingual Group Hike (Jones-Whites Creek Trailhead): Friends of Nevada Wilderness collaborates with Hispanic Access Foundation for the Bilingual Group Hike. Enjoy the beautiful landscape in the Galena Area while learning about the benefits of preserving the wilderness and our natural resources. [Davis Fire could impact this event. Stay tuned.]

September 22:

  • Fiesta on Wells (Wells Avenue from Vassar to Crampton): This free event includes music, live entertainment and food with over 85 vendors and information booths being offered throughout the neighborhood.
