Monsieur Periné Asks You To Help Colombia

The Latin Grammy award winning band and 2026 Artown performer, Monsieur Periné, has taken to Instagram to ask for the public’s help after the devastating 7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia on Monday, August 10.

“Colombia needs us,” Santiago Prieto said in a reel. “Today, thousands of families are facing the consequences of this earthquake that shook the entire country.”

According to news reports 24-hours after the tremor, 181 died, nearly 2,600 suffered injured and the whereabouts of at least 195 people are unknown. The epicenter was in the area of Chocó, and it’s impact could be felt in the mayor cities of Pereira, Calí and Bogotá.

Ironically, and sadly, Monsieur Periné, led by the vocalist Catalina García and the instrumentalist Prieto, while on the Helaine Greenberg stage at Rancho San Rafael Park on July 31 had encouraged their dancing audience – as they enjoyed their stunning digital visuals and glamorous outfits – to advocate and support their Venezuela neighbors in their time of need. Similar to the moment Colombians are living now, this past June 24 two earthquakes struck Venezuela. The death toll of the 7.2 and 7.4 seismographic events has surpassed over 6,300.

Now it’s there time to ask for help.

Monsieur Periné, a Colombian duo described as “a musical laboratory that shares its vision of the world, love, and freedom through a vibrant, multidimensional sound,” closed out in Artown’s Cultural Connections series which aims to bring musical artists from across the world to perform for free in the city of Reno. In so doing, the organization – which is now in its 31st year – exposes attendees to multicultural communities and in some cases, connects locals back to their homelands.

“I’m familiar with the band. They are from Cali, in Colombia, where I’m from,” said a woman named Ara who further explained that the band is popular but “underground” in their home country. This makes it even more interesting that they made it to all the way Northern Nevada, indicating their interest for the Colombian band.

“I’ve learned to trust Beth’s intuition about music,” said an attendee about Beth Macmillan, the executive director for Artown for the past 23 years.

Monsieur Periné recently celebrated the release of their fifth studio album, Instrucciones Para Ser Feliz.
