According to the Migration Policy Institute, the United States is home to about 1.7 million Filipino immigrants, making them the second-largest immigrant group in the United States after Mexican immigrants. According to the 2016 U.S Census, Washoe County has the second largest Filipino population in Nevada.
Family-owned businesses have a significant influence on the U.S. economy. According to the Conway Center for Family Business, family businesses account for 64 percent of the country’s gross domestic product and produce 62 percent of jobs.
According to TIME, the number of international students in U.S. colleges and universities grew by 7.1 percent last year, topping one million. Students studying abroad face issues such as adjusting to a new culture and trying to communicate in a new language, often in situations in which the student is under a lot of physical and mental stress.
According to a study done by the National Low Income Housing Association, Nevada only has 15 affordable homes available for every 100 extremely low-income people. Reno currently only has 63 affordable apartment properties with a population of approximately 245,000 people.

In August, the Trump administration rescinded the Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals Act, which will be fully phased out on March 5, 2018, giving Congress until Dec. 8 to pass a new act. Nevada’s response to this deadline has the two main political parties pushing for separate acts.
With continued uncertainty about the future of the Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals program, known as DACA, a community art project recently stopped at the University of Nevada, Reno, to highlight the issue.
